Breakr.tv vs Google Sheets
Most card breakers started on a Google Sheets template bought on Etsy. The spreadsheet is cheap, flexible, and it works. Here is an honest side-by-side with Breakr.tv so you can tell when the spreadsheet is still right.
Side by side
| Feature | Breakr.tv | Google Sheets | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Break cost + margin math | ● | ● | A spreadsheet does this fine. Breakr pre-fills for common box sizes. |
| Spot pricing per team | ● | ● | |
| Live sales capture during show | ● | ○ | Spreadsheets need manual entry row by row. |
| Auto-fill buyer + price from Whatnot | ● | ○ | |
| OBS overlays (scoreboard, hit alerts) | ● | ○ | |
| Team randomizer visible on stream | ● | ○ | |
| Hit log tagged to picker | ● | ◐ | Spreadsheet can do a hit log; it does not show on OBS. |
| Viewer rewards program | ● | ○ | |
| Shop + redemption fulfillment flow | ● | ○ | |
| Buyer leaderboard across shows | ● | ◐ | Needs cross-sheet formulas and manual maintenance. |
| End-of-show reports (fees, profit, redemptions) | ● | ◐ | |
| Chat announcements | ● | ○ | |
| Flexible / customizable | ◐ | ● | Spreadsheets win on raw flexibility. Breakr is opinionated on break workflow. |
| Cost | ◐ | ● | Spreadsheets are $5-15 one-time. Breakr has a free tier plus paid. |
When the spreadsheet is still right
- You run one or two shows a month and the manual data entry is fine
- You do not use OBS overlays — your audience watches on Whatnot without a scoreboard
- You like the flexibility to track custom metrics the way you want
- You are not ready to install a Chrome extension
When Breakr pays for itself
- You run more than four shows a month — the manual entry costs more than the tool
- You want a scoreboard on cam so viewers see who got what in real time
- You want a viewer rewards program (impossible to replicate in a spreadsheet)
- You want hit alerts to fire in OBS automatically when you log a card
- You want end-of-show reports with fees, profit, and redemption velocity without rebuilding formulas every month
The migration path
- Keep running the spreadsheet one more show. Install Breakr's extension while you do.
- Compare the Breakr sales ledger to your spreadsheet at close of show. Numbers should match.
- On the next show, use Breakr for live capture and the spreadsheet for anything Breakr does not cover yet.
- Within a few shows the spreadsheet becomes empty rows — delete it, keep what Breakr tracks.
