Format
Hit draft break
A hit draft break lets each buyer draft the hits as they land, in roll order. The most skill-expressive break format — buyers who know the hobby pick better. Pairs beautifully with a live scoreboard.
How it works
- Operator picks a product and sets a spot count (6, 8, 12).
- Each spot costs the same (unlike PYT) — the differentiation is draft order.
- Draft order is set by a live randomizer at the top of the show.
- The box is ripped. When a hit lands (autograph, patch, numbered, 1/1), the current pick picks it. Order rotates serpentine: 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1.
- Each hit is claimed by whoever is up. Base cards go to the operator or get set aside.
What counts as a "hit"
The operator sets the hit floor at the start of the show. Common floors:
- Any autograph, patch, or numbered card
- Any insert from a specific set
- Any card with a book value over a dollar threshold ($50, $100)
- Specific set-defined hits (One Touch slabs, downtown inserts)
Breakr's hit log lets you tag each hit as you record it so the scoreboard shows who owns which card.
Why buyers like it
- Skill matters. Pick the biggest hit when it lands or trust it will stay for your next pick.
- Everyone leaves with something. If there are 6 spots and 12 hits, every spot gets 2 hits.
- Suspense per card. Random-team suspense is one draw; hit-draft suspense is every pack.
Operator workflow in Breakr
- Open
/breaks, pick the Hit Draft template. - Set spot count and hit floor. Draw draft order live.
- As each hit lands, open the hit log, tap the current pick's name, tag the card.
- Scoreboard updates per hit. OBS alert plays with the picker's username.
- At close of show, Breakr's report shows total hits per spot — settle any disputes with the log.
Hit draft vs random team vs PYT
Hit draft
Skill. Draft order sets. Every spot wins something.
Random team
Luck. One draw at the top. Hits route by team.
PYT
Pick + luck. Buyer chose team, then hopes.
Common mistakes
- No hit floor announced. Buyers will argue mid-break — set the floor on the title card.
- Draft order drifted. Breakr's scoreboard pins the current pick so you cannot lose track. Use it.
- Logging hits after the fact. Tag each hit as it lands. Memory degrades fast on a six-pack rip.
