Reward fulfillment on Whatnot without collecting addresses
Whatnot does not let a seller offer a free item or a specific-buyer coupon. Collectr is a separate account. The reserved-listing pattern threads that needle — the viewer buys a $1 Whatnot listing with their name on it, Whatnot captures the address, you ship.
Why Whatnot's native options do not work
- Coupons are not per-user — a Rewards Club tier coupon unlocks for every buyer at that tier, not the one who redeemed in your shop.
- Giveaways are random — Whatnot's picker chooses, you cannot name a specific username.
- Private shows are not a true primitive — follower-only is the closest gate, which does not restrict to a single buyer.
- $0 listings are not supported — the practical floor is $1.
- Rewards Club tier-only shows work but need 50+ orders and $1,000+ lifetime seller revenue to qualify.
The reserved-listing pattern
Viewer redeems in your shop
They burn 2,500 points for a Pokemon ETB in your Breakr-powered shop at breakr.tv/r/your-channel.
You see "Needs listing" in Breakr
The queue at /rewards-shop/queue shows the redemption, the viewer's Whatnot username, and a Copy listing title button.
Post a $1 Buy-It-Now on Whatnot
Title: RESERVED @viewer-name — Pokemon ETB — DO NOT BUY. Description is pre-filled by the template. You pin it or run it in a follower-only "Fulfillment Friday" show to tighten the funnel.
Viewer buys the $1 listing
Whatnot captures the address through its normal checkout. You see the order in your Whatnot seller dashboard — same as a regular sale.
Ship through Whatnot's label
Print the shipping label from Whatnot. Ship the real reward item (the ETB, not a $1 token). Mark the redemption fulfilled in Breakr.
The rogue-buyer question
Can another viewer buy the reserved listing before the named buyer? Yes. In practice, the title call-out, the verbal shout-out on stream, and running fulfillment in a follower-only show keep the rate under 5%. When it happens, DM the rogue buyer and ask them to cancel through Whatnot — buyer-initiated cancels are not subject to Whatnot's $3 cancellation fee. If they refuse, you can honor the sale, refund yourself (eat the $3 fee), or relist. For a 1-2% hit rate, the economics stay fine.
When to use the alternative pattern
If your channel runs lots of returning buyers, flip the requirePriorPurchase toggle in /rewards-settings. Viewers who have bought once can still redeem; you ship the reward to the address on their last Whatnot order. No new $1 listing is needed. The cost is losing the drama of the named reserved listing in your stream.
